The Malvern
Bowling Club

MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT

Dear Members,

Well we were very lucky with the weather for the most part and the club enjoyed a great day yesterday with the club championships being completed for Singles and Pairs.

Congratulations to all competitors, there was some great bowling and simply no losers.

I also have to offer a huge thanks to Penny, Jill, June, Anita, Dee, John, Pek-Tee and Wayne and anyone else who provided food for the wine tasting or helped with cooking or the bar, I apologise if I have missed anyone but the spread was great and enjoyed by all in attendance and to be honest it was great to see so many people enjoying the competition and supporting and applauding all good bowls.    I hope that the club can continue this tradition and make the main club bowling event a big thing each year.

Special thanks also to Andy Barraclough and Roger Morrison for ably marking the singles and to the greenkeeper who continue to produce a green well in excess of our expectations.    Also to Rodger (the wine taster) Kimpton for being the umpire for the day.    Of course the finals were preceded with a great away win from the Div 4 side at Elsternwick club with the Div 7 side unfortunately being washed out at Eltham which was most unfortunate given the start that they had had.

For the record, those successful on the day were:

Ladies Pairs –                         Anne Franceschini and Robyn Loh

Men’s Pairs –                         Garry Devlin and Ed Payne

Ladies Singles –                     Suzanne Gibbs

Men’s Singles –                      Stuart Arnold-Levy

Don’t forget the Xmas breakup function this Wednesday, looks like more than 50 attendees, more great food, raffles, prizes and just sharing a drink with your friends for Xmas.

Club Coaching:

Rodger Kimpton has kindly offered to run a “reading of the head” session this Thursday at 4:00pm at the club.  It is clear that this is an area that we can all have improvement.    It is not just 3rds and skips but all bowlers should understand what to look for in shot selection as you may be playing singles or pairs one day and want to make the best choice.   Hopefully this will be well attended.

Finally from the committee of the Malvern Bowling club to all members, families, sponsors and friends, have a great Xmas and festive New Year and we will see you back on the greens sooner than you think…

Cheers

Stuart
