The Malvern
Bowling Club

MESSAGE FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT

Dear Members,

Welcome to the festive silly season.   The club is unbelievably busy with Wednesday night socials and all the functions in place.    Please support both John Finemore and Penny Gamble as they battle their way through the significant period for the club.   I thank in advance all those members who have volunteered to assist wherever they can with the functions, it takes a lot of input and involvement to make a club viable and this aspect is one that ensures that the club continues to grow and prosper.

Reminder:

We have advised previously that as a club we need to be getting our Division 7 Saturday side promoted.   The situation in Div 7 with byes and walkovers does not work and is not providing those members a regular game that opportunity.   The distances travelled also are a function of being in the lowest division with this team.  In advance I apologise to some members who may not get a game in the Div 7 lineup over the next few weeks.   The selectors will be trying to put in bowlers to give us the best chance to win games and also to qualify them for finals.   I do however remind everyone that we are ONE club and ALL members are bowlers are important to us, it’s just sometimes we need to make decisions that will not make everyone happy in the pursuit of, in this case promotion to Div 6 next year.

Therefore I ask for your patience, support and continue to train and support the club by going to the game if you are an emergency to get this team promoted and also to ensure that when the opportunity arises you are ready to make the most of it when selected.

With this in mind, please be aware that the finals weekend is March 2/3 and 9/10 so keep this in mind if looking at holidays if you want to be part of a potential premiership.    Premierships are hard to get so being part of it creates memories and a great club feel and vibe.

Let’s get Div 7 to Div 6 as a CLUB and all enjoy the success if we are able to do so.

Regis

Forms are up in the club for volunteers.    If you have a few hours a week the residents could use a hand!!!    We have one volunteer who has put his name down and would love to see half a dozen with some spare time giving back to this sponsor.

Practice

Rodger and Joe continue to set up drills weekly to help bowlers get better.   Please give them your support, they want the club to be successful and the only way this can be done is through practice, persistence and technique.    If you want some one on one coaching please see them directly and arrange some time.

Club Competitions

We are getting close with the contestants for the men’s final being confirmed last night.

Once again John Murdoch returns to take on Stuart Arnold-Levy in a rematch of last year’s final.   It is never easy to make a singles final but John has done this 3 years in a row which is a remarkable effort.

In the ladies singles we have Anne Franceschini (who beat Pek Tee Kimpton in a tight concert) competing in her first singles final and awaiting the winner of the Suzanne Gibbs v Olga Nowatschenko semi-final.   It would be Suzanne’s second final in a row which would also be a huge effort and Olga’s first if she makes it.    Olga has been somewhat of a giant killer to date beating dual champion, Eiko Sakai in the qtr final after Eiko had beaten dual winner Andy Barraclough in an earlier round.

The men’s pairs are at semi-final stage and the women’s pairs are awaiting one other semi.    I will send through a schedule of events for Dec 16th once all combatants have been determined, in the meantime I wish all bowlers good luck in their quest for competition glory!!!!

Finals for the Men’s and Ladies’ Singles and Men’s and Ladies’ Pairs will be on Sunday 16th December.    There will be some wine tasting and food and I encourage all members to make a day of it.    You will be able to buy the wines at a discounted rate.    Please put this date in your diary!!!

Events:

We have the end of year Xmas Function on Wednesday 19th December, $25 inclu a drink and some special catering from Penny Gamble and her merry bunch of elf’s……you know who you are!!!!

We also have the wine tasting and food on Dec 16th, we have scheduled this to coincide with the bowling singles and pairs finals.    I encourage all members to put your name down, come and taste some wine, eat some great food and encourage all bowlers.    This is an all-day club event, come and have some fun!!!!!

As we get closer to Xmas please be careful on the roads and look after yourself and your Families.

Good luck and good bowling!!!!

Cheers

Stuart
